Looking back on a year packed with innovation and sustainability

As 2025 draws to a close, we at Smart Packaging Solutions are proud to look back at a year focused on innovation, sustainability and collaboration. A year in which we introduced new solutions, invested in our production sites and collaborated with customers and partners to move towards a circular future.

In 2025, we introduced several new packaging solutions that align with our core principles of being sustainable, practical and future-oriented. Our new solid board solutions, like Repun and Stackpack, are recyclable and PPWR compliant. They help you achieve your sustainability goals without sacrificing quality or user-friendliness.

A few of this year’s highlights:

We’re always working to improve the quality of our packaging. In 2025, we took another important step. A new Celmacch printing machine has gone into production at our Loenen plant. This ultra-modern machine can produce even better, fully customised high-definition printing, and enhances the final quality of our packaging. 

At our plant in Oudegem, the technical performance of our laminator has been upgraded so that we can further expand our product range. Marc Hopstaken, Plant Manager in Meer, received the VPK Group Award for Innovation. Under his leadership, the plant achieved groundbreaking developments, including the successful production of new solid board packaging such as stackable machine-erected trays, punnets and other sustainable alternatives to plastic packaging.

We also joined forces with Fruitpack and, in Spain, installed a new set-up station for solid board trays for broccoli and herbs. These investments demonstrate our commitment to ongoing innovation, ensuring we provide our customers with top-notch, eco-friendly packaging.

Caring for people and the planet is at the heart of our company and what we do. When it comes to sustainability and quality, we’re proud of the amazing results we achieved this year. VPK Group, to which Smart Packaging Solutions belongs, was awarded the EcoVadis Platinum medal and, with this, ranks among the top 1% of companies worldwide in the field of sustainability.

What’s more, our plants in Meer, Oudegem and Loenen achieved BRCGS certification once again, demonstrating that our packaging meets the highest standards for food safety and quality.
